Appalachian Ski Mountain

Despite being small, it is the nearest ski resort to Charlotte. There are twelve slopes on Appalachian Ski Mountain, with Orchard Run, an intermediate half-mile slope, being the longest. (Added bonus: the area is now open for night skiing, and there are now three terrain parks for snowboarders.) The ice rink is on-site, and Blowing Rock’s stores are only 10 minutes away if you tire of the slopes.

Apple Hill Farm Banner Elk NC

Through its animals and the opportunity to experience a real, working farm, visitors to Apple Hill Farm feel joy and connection. For you to depart with a grin on your face and stories to tell, let the tour guides show you the way. They accomplish this through their store, farm visits, and educational activities. The closest people and animals to you are the best sources of reconnection.

Beech Mountain Town Sledding Hill

The sole public sledding slope in the southeast is provided by the Town of Beech Mountain. Parents or other responsible adults are allowed to ride sleds with preschoolers because they are designed for children ages 12 and younger. There is plenty of good sledding to go around, and when necessary, natural snow may be improved using a snow gun.

The hill is a great place to introduce kids to winter activities, and there is no fee to use it. Many families spend the entire day on the mountain sledding at the hill, warming up at the Visitor Center across the street, learning about other things to do, and then enjoying a delicious meal at one of the town’s restaurants (three of which are walking distance from the hill).

Plastic sleds are required for use at the town sledding hill. The town sledding hill does not have sleds available. You can either bring your own plastic sleds or hire one from the White Wolf Lodge or Beech Meadows Ski Shop. Sleds are another item for sale at Fred’s General Mercantile. Weather permitting, the sledding hill is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Sunday and on holidays.

Hawksnest Snow Tubing

They provide enjoyable experiences for all tubers, from beginners to experts, and credit goes to their diverse selection of terrain. Make enduring memories as you glide through the mountains of North Carolina. Snow tubing requires that all participants be at least 3 years old. Smaller kids, usually between 3 and 8 years old, need to be with an adult when they go snow tubing. Children who want to ride alone on our snow tubing runs must be tall enough and strong enough to slow themselves down at the bottom. Tickets are required for participation and are priced the same for all ages of snow tubers.

Silver Run Falls

Silver Run Falls is a beautiful waterfall, despite not being the highest or largest in the Smokies.

It’s an excellent site to stop at on a long hike or to spend the day because of its sizable, sandy pool. This is one of the most picturesque waterfalls you’ll find, from any angle, if you’re a photographer looking for the ideal snap. This mix of free falls and a nearly vertical slide, which cascades from Silver Run Creek, reaches a height of around 40 feet.

Located just south of Cashiers, Silver Run Falls is a beautiful 25-foot waterfall. It’s accessible, welcoming to families, and well-liked. From Lake Toxaway, travel west on Hwy 64 towards Cashiers, then turn left onto Hwy 107 to reach these falls. Parking is only a broad stretch on the shoulder with space for maybe 5 automobiles, a little more than 4 miles down on the left.

Snow tubing at Sugar Mountain Winter Fun

Searching for something unique? Go tubing! The 700-foot-long tubing lanes are situated on the Sugar Mountain Golf Course and are served by a Magic Carpet lift. The facility includes snowmaking, lighting for night tubing, and regularly maintained courses. Sessions last just over two hours and take place between 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. At the tubing park, you must purchase individual tickets. Children under the age of 11 must have a parent or legal guardian sign the waiver. You can save time by filling out the form ahead of time and bringing it with you.

Parkway Hill in Blowing Rock

Many people’s favorite place to sled in Blowing Rock, North Carolina, is This Hill, which is around 1 hour and 48 minutes away from Charlotte. The hill is accessible to everyone, which is fantastic because there is enough room for everyone. The nicest aspect is that it is only two miles from Blowing Rock’s center. Bring your own plastic sled if you can.

Note: Be sure to pull entirely off the road while parking because The Hill can get busy and parking can be difficult at times.
